Composite Fillings

Tooth-Colored composites are highly aesthetic

Fillings are dental restorations which replaces decayed or chipped tooth structure. They are usually composed of silver or "tooth colored" composite resin. Both are safe materials to use and both have their strength and weaknesses. Silver fillings have been used as a filling material for over 150 years. It doesn't require the tooth surface to be completely dry during placement and is less technique sensitive. The disadvantage is that it causes discoloration of the tooth and requires more tooth structure to be removed prior to placement. Tooth-colored composites have been around for over 50 years. It is directly bonded or glued to tooth structure therefore the tooth must be completely dry before placement. They are highly aesthetic and they are offered in various shades which allows us to color match the patient's existing tooth shade. This is crucial especially when it comes to fillings on the front teeth where it is highly visible.
